美國材料名校 Review Part 1 ~Penn State University

  終於到了要決定學校的階段了,想說來作個一連串的美國材料系名校的系列報導來增加自己對學校的熟悉度。作這個報導一方面可以幫我瞭解這個學校材料系的方向,是作陶瓷?金屬?還是高分子?有啥設備?資源豐不豐富?這樣在寫SOP的時候比較能打到教授的G點讓他們看的爽爽爽。一方面在我瞭解這個校系以後,如果未來申請到不只一間的學校(希望不是我想太多XD),也可以幫助我作抉擇。

  介紹的第一間學校是賓州州立大學The Pennsylvania State University簡稱Penn State。這間學校是我要申請美國學校時第一直覺想去的學校,原因很簡單,因為我的表哥目前就在這間學校就讀電機所,在聊天中知道這所學校雖然偏僻了點但非常漂亮,並且材料系也是這間學校的名系,耳濡目染之下對這間學校的印象最深刻。

H2E Center
Penn State researchers are leading the way in developing new technologies related to hydrogen energy and fuel cells.

The International Center for Actuators and Transducers (ICAT)
Provides fundamental research on actuator and transducer materials, design and fabrication processes, and applications for solid state actuators in precision machines, micro positioners, smart structure control, and ultrasonic motors, among others.

Center for Nanoscale Science (CNS)
This NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) is targeting design, synthesis, and application of chemical nanofabrication/nanolithography, nanowires, and molecular motors.

Microwave Processing and Engineering Center (MPEC)

An NSF I/UCRC* Center based on needs identified by CCMD members, which includes organizations representing both large and small businesses and DOE and DOD laboratories.

  看起來這間學校作什麼好像都蠻平均的,但是明顯做奈米的教授很多,看他們系上也有一堆沒看過的測奈米級的儀器。半導體跟模擬就相對很少。
